Strengthening safeguarding through thoughtful school design.

School entrance & safeguarding improvements

The challenge

The school needed a safer and more effective way to manage access to the site.

Existing visitor arrangements required people to enter through the playground, making it more difficult to control access and support the school’s safeguarding responsibilities. The challenge was to create a secure, purpose-built entrance while allowing the school to remain fully operational throughout the programme.

Success depended on careful planning, close collaboration with school leaders and a delivery approach that protected pupils, staff and day-to-day learning from start to finish.

The solution

We designed and delivered a purpose-built entrance and reception facility that transformed the way visitors access the school.

Working closely with the school leadership team and professional consultants, we managed every stage of the programme, from planning and construction through to completion. The works included a new entrance extension, structural alterations, roofing and a full internal fit-out to create a secure, welcoming and functional reception area.

Delivered under a JCT Design & Build contract, the programme was carefully phased around the school’s daily activities, maintaining safe access and minimising disruption while creating an environment that better supports safeguarding, visitor management and the day-to-day operation of the school.

The outcome

The completed project has transformed the school’s arrival experience, creating a safer, more welcoming and better-managed entrance for everyone who visits.

Pupils, staff and visitors now benefit from a dedicated reception and controlled point of access that strengthens safeguarding while providing a more professional and reassuring first impression. School staff have a more efficient environment for managing arrivals, enquiries and visitors, supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the school.

Delivered on programme and within budget, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design and careful delivery can create safer environments that support learning, strengthen safeguarding and provide lasting value for the whole school community.
